What is a Community? What is a law?

In Social Studies, we are learning about communities and laws.  Today we used our "Circle Maps" to help us define what is a community and what is a law.  They did a great job!

Representing Numbers

                                    
 In Envisions, we have talked about representing numbers in different ways.  Students got together in groups and decided on a three digit and a four digit number.  They had to represent each number in standard form, expanded form, and word form.

          Example:
   standard form:  356
   expanded form: 300 + 50 + 6
   word form:  three hundred fifty six

Great Readers!

We have been discussing "How to become a better reader" during Readers Workshop.  Here we are practicing reading daily. 

Learning to Communicate In Science

On Tuesday (Aug. 21st), we discussed how important it is for scientist to communicate specific information to each other.  Students took turns building a structure behind a book and giving directions to their partner to build the same structure.  Then they compared their structures.

Welcome to 3rd grade!  I am so excited to start "Mapping Our Journey" together. 
Here is a list of school supplies to help us stay organized all year. 
Please do not bring 3-ring binders to school.

All students should bring the following items:

One 5 subject notebook

#2 pencils (each day)

box of tissue

 liquid hand soap

 hand sanitizer

2 highlighters

colored pencils
